Scar Therapy

Scar therapy is a targeted medical approach designed to address pain, numbness, tingling, tightness, and functional restriction that can persist after surgery, injury, or trauma. Although scars are visible on the surface, they can affect deeper layers of fascia, nerves, circulation, and the autonomic nervous system, leading to ongoing symptoms that are often overlooked.

Common symptoms associated with problematic scars include:

• Localized or radiating pain

• Numbness or altered sensation

• Tingling, burning, or hypersensitivity

• Tightness or pulling with movement

• Restricted range of motion

• Pain or dysfunction distant from the scar site

In addition to physical symptoms, scars—especially those formed during traumatic events, surgeries, or emotionally significant experiences—may contribute to persistent nervous system activation. The body can store stress responses within injured tissues, and restricted scars may continue to signal threat or tension long after healing has occurred.

Scar therapy works to restore normal tissue mobility, nerve signaling, and autonomic balance through techniques such as Micropoint stimulation therapy, needling-based treatments, localized injections, ozone therapy and neuromodulatory approaches, depending on the individual presentation.

By improving fascial glide, reducing abnormal nerve irritation, and calming local and systemic nervous system responses, scar therapy may help:

• Decrease chronic pain and sensory disturbances

• Improve sensation and nerve function

• Restore movement and postural balance

• Reduce compensatory pain patterns

• Promote a sense of physical and emotional release

Many patients report not only physical improvement, but also a release of stored tension or emotional discomfort associated with the scar, reflecting the close connection between the body, nervous system, and lived experience.

Treatment is individualized following a comprehensive assessment of the scar’s location, depth, age, and relationship to surrounding tissues. Scar therapy is often incorporated into a comprehensive pain management or rehabilitation plan to support both physical recovery and overall well-being.
